It is a little complicated for selecting coating thickness gauge.For proper selection of coating thickness gauge, user should understand the character of substrate and wall thickness range of coating(suface material).Coatint thickness gauge is also called as film thickness gauge or paint thickness gauge. For purpose of reference,some selection rules are listed as below:

 

1.Is metal Ferrous substrate?

When selecting coating thickness gauge, people should check the metal is Ferrous substrate(Shorted as F) or a Non-Ferrous Substrate(NF).In some application, it is difficult to know it because the substrated has been coated or painted.And we can use a megnet to check it by sticking it to surface.

 

2.Coating thickness gauge will be only used for one kind of substrate or over one.

If caothing thickness gauge is only used for one kind of substrate,it is easy to make a selection. If thickness gauge will be used for over one kind, it will need to check the character of all of substrates. If only Ferrous substrate, F coathing thickness gauge is all right,otherwise,NF thickness gauge is ok. If both of substrates may be met, F & NF coathing thickness gauge is recommended.

 

3. Check the detailed combination of coating and substrate.

User should check the detailed combination of coating and substrate material and ensure coathing thickness gauge can be used.If users are not confirmed,please feel free to contact our technicians for discussing.

 

4.Coathing thickness range and coathing temperature

It is better to have a general range of coathing thickness and coathing temperature, so that can select proper probe.For example, scale 1 measures coating thickness up to 1250um(50mils.For other range up to 18000um,please kindly consult us.

 

5.What type probe needed?

Probe of coathing thickness guage has two kinds: integrated type(built-in) and separated type, separated type connected by cable.They have their own advantages as below:

Integrated type: 

Hold by one hand

Easy to carry it in pocket

Ideal for flat or curved surfaces

Separated type:

Can be for restriced area

For convex and concave surfaces

Easily replaced.

 

6.Function of data recording and logging

We have two kinds of coathing thickness gauge

one is basic function without function of data recording and logging,

the other is with data recording function,but it need to order RS232 or USB cable and software.
